Central Park is home to the 17 year Brood XIII (13) periodical cicadas! Up to 3 species of periodical cicada species have been documented in this brood nationwide.

Central Parks brood XIII cicadas have been hatching this past week and will be singing soon. Now is the perfect time to head out to see them for yourself! Visit the Jones County Wild For Reading StoryWalk® Trail to catch a glimpse of our 2024 Brood XIII cicadas.

Periodical cicadas are dependent on stable woodland habitats and are easily affected adversely by habitat loss.
