Central Park Goose Round Up and Banding
posted on 6/29/23
This past Wednesday the Iowa Department of Natural Resources, staff from several other conservation organizations, and area volunteers helped round up and band Central Parks resident Canada geese. Information collected is used for the Iowa DNR's ongoing statewide goose research tracking migration and health patterns of the areas Canada geese. Banding occurs during mid-summer when adult geese are molting (shedding flight feathers) and unable to fly. Bands made of lightweight metal are attached to the leg of each goose. Age, sex, and health information on each goose is recorded. Check out the photo gallery of this years Central Park Canada goose round up.
