Join Us For Birds & Binoculars!

posted on 5/18/26

Join staff from the Jones County Conservation and the Monticello Parks and Recreation Department as we walk and learn about some of Iowa’s amazing birds during this summer’s Birds & Binoculars programs!

Saturday, June 13 | 9–11 AM

📍 Central Park

We’re partnering with the Iowa Young Birders Association for a special morning of birding at Central Park. We’ll take a close look at the park’s purple martin colony, including an inside look at nestlings in their nesting gourds. Then, we’ll hit the trails to see how many bird species we can spot together.  Click here to visit the Iowa Young Birders Association website to register for this event.

Thursday, July 16 | 7 PM

📍 Pocket Park

Meet us in downtown Monticello as we learn about chimney swifts and nighthawks. We’ll keep our eyes to the sky while strolling through town in search of these elusive birds.  No registration necessary.

Saturday, September 5 | 9–11 AM

📍 Riverside Gardens

Discover which birds are beginning their migration south for the winter. We’ll enjoy a short hike while learning about the migratory birds stopping through the area.  No registration necessary.

Binoculars and field guides will be provided, but feel free to bring your own.

Birders of all experience levels are encouraged to attend! 😊
