Join us on the Central Park Nature Centers Early Out Wednesday Snow Fun Days - January 4, 11, and 18 from 1 - 4 PM each day. Have fun learning about snow, try your luck at completing the Outdoor Scavenger Hunt, check-out a pair of snowshoes and hit the trails for some wintry fun (4-6 inches of snow needed.), venture into the Frankfurt Forest to walk the Winter StoryWalk® Trail featuring "The Wish Tree" book, make a snowman or snow angel, and enjoy hot chocolate and cookies at the Nature Center. Early Out Wednesday events are free come and go events open to all families. Children must be accompanied by an adult.

Are you new to ice fishing? Here's your chance to learn about the basics of beginning ice fishing. Join Conservation Staff Monday morning , January 16, from 10 AM to Noon, as we discuss what you need to be successful at beginning ice fishing. Learn some basic tips to safely begin catching fish through the ice. We'll highlight low cost to high cost equipment options for anyone new to ice fishing. Find out what species of fish are found at Central Park Lake and what to use to increase your odds of a successful ice fishing outing. Each family attending will receive a simple ice fishing starter kit courtesy of Murray's Outdoor Store in Guttenberg. Registration is required - Space is limited. Join us on Monday, January 16th from Noon to 4 PM for some Winter Fun! Try snowshoeing on the trails of Central Park. Enjoy hot chocolate and cookies in the Central Park Nature Center as you color carefully to enter the Winter Coloring Contest. Make a pinecone bird feeder to take home. Check-out basic ice fishing gear to try your hand at ice fishing on Central Park Lake. (Loaner equipment and bait will be available at the Nature Center) (Park Staff will be on hand near the Central Park Lake Fishing pier to assist with drilling holes and answer questions. (Snowshoeing and ice fishing are weather and snow and ice dependent.)
Want to learn more about Ice Fishing? Sign up to attend the Ice Fishing Program to be held from 10 - Noon in the lower level Meeting Room of he Nature Center. Our adult based environmental education series, OWLS, (Older Wiser Livelier Souls) is back for 2023! We’ll kick of this year with a snowshoeing experience at Whitewater Canyon on Friday, January 27th. Free to any adults wishing to join us, interested parties will need to reserve their spot and can request to borrow a pair of snowshoes, if needed. We’ll need to know approximate height and weight to get you the best fit. All experience levels are welcome. We’ll meet at the Whitewater Canyon main parking lot at 29912 9th Ave., Bernard IA at 1:00 PM. Be sure to dress in layers, wear sunscreen, and bring water. If conditions do not allow for snowshoes, we’ll go for a hike. Please indicate your interest by January 25th.
