Controlled or Prescribed Burning on Conservation Areas

You may have noticed the change in the landscape of some of the conservation areas as they turn black from a recent prescribed or controlled burn.  Often in the Spring,  controlled burning is planned to meet specific land management objectives like restoring the ecosystem health, preparing an area for new vegetation or prairie restoration.   

To date, Hamilton Tapken Prairie, Scotch Grove Prairie and the Central Park - Pearson Addition have areas that have been burned.  It's been a bit of a challenge with the Spring weather being rainy and or too windy for burning but a few nice days have allowed successful controlled burns.  

Quickly the areas will green up and you won't even notice the burn occurred.
