Road Closures & Construction

For current closings and construction projects click here.

Purpose

The Jones County Secondary Road Department closes and restricts traffic on roads during road projects, extreme weather events, maintenance activities and other various road situations that may effect the traveling public.  Our department sends out notifications to the public safety agencies so that they can adjust in the event of an emergency.  (See below for current closures and proposed construction project schedules and location maps.)

Five Year Construction Program

All physical assets, such as bridges, culverts, embankments, paving and traffic controls, continually deteriorate, requiring that a certain percentage thereof be renewed every year.  To accomplish this the Jones County Engineer's Office develops programs of work.  Here is the program of assets to be replaced/rehabilitated over the next five years.

Project Updates

215th Avenue Road Closure and Construction Update:

The project was let on April 9, 2024 and was awarded to Steger Construction of Dyersville for $870 thousand.  The project included culvert replacements, ditch grading, and a new granular surface.  The contractor completed their work on October 1st and the road is now open to traffic.

County Road X-64 Closure and Construction Update:

The project was let on July 16, 2024 and was awarded to Cedar Valley Corp., LLC of Waterloo for $2,970,000.  The contract allows 60 working days to complete the project once started.  The project is to place a concrete overlay with widening of lanes.  The contractor will begin with intersection reconstruction at Massillon Road and County Rd X64 and work began the week of August the 26th.  The road will be closed to traffic and the public will need to use the signed detour.  A map of the detour can be seen here.  It is anticipated that paving began the week of September the 16th.  During paving, access to all properties will be limited for 1-3 days.  On Thursday, October 3rd, the paving operation has overlaid south of 32nd Street.  They hope to conclude mainline paving to the Cedar County line by the 11th of October.  Once paving has concluded, intersections, bridge approaches and shoulders will begin to be constructed.
