Volunteer Opportunity: Central Park Prairie Seed Harvest
Join the Jones County Conservation Department staff to help harvest prairie seed for future prairie restoration projects!
No experience is necessary — we’ll provide a brief training session at the start of each volunteer day.
What to Bring:
All other equipment will be provided.
Come enjoy the outdoors, learn about local ecosystems, and make a difference in restoring native prairies!

Join Naturalists from Dubuque, Jackson, and Jones County on a trip for a private visit to the Aldo Leopold Center, Leopold Shack, and witness the fall migration of thousands of sandhill cranes.

The Aldo Leopold Center is located about 2 hours from Dubuque near Baraboo, Wisconsin. Space is limited and the cost of $71 covers transportation to the center by van, along with the tour of the center, shack and bird blind for observing the cranes. Car pooling arrangements will be available from the Hurstville Nature Center, Central Park Nature Center, and the EB Lyons Nature Center.

Come learn how to make a beautiful simple pine needle basket. Create your own mini basket to take home. All materials will be provided. Classes will take place from 9 AM - 1 PM in the lower level meeting room of the Central Park Nature Center. A lite lunch will be provided by the Friends of Jones County Conservation and Nature Center. This class is sponsored by the Jones County Conservation Board and Friends of Jones County Conservation and Nature Center.
